Administrative question about the header

On a duller, more procedural note that I meant to bring up a long time ago: Is anyone else having trouble with the blog's beautiful header? On my computer, perhaps because it is a Mac or because I use Firefox, the photograph is having two effects: it now takes a very long time to load the blog, and the text in the header now runs off the screen. Is it just my computer? If so, does anyone know what I can do to fix it? If not, is there any way to adjust the size of the picture to fix these two problems? I love the picture and would not like to return to the olden days of a purely textual header.

Howdy - the header doesn't render correctly for me (this is my first visit). It appears to be too large... if you want to adjust the dimesions, try reducing the image to about 735 x 240 and see if that fits a little better.

Good luck,
jlb

I have the same issue, Ariel. Not so much with the loading speed (as my computer is super fast), but the text goes off the edge of my screen and the whole thing seems off center. I don't know how to fix it, short of dropping the picture all together, which would be a shame.

Since I loaded it, let me see if I can adjust the photo size - it is okay on my screen which is odd! LOL! I'll give it a whirl tomorrow when I have some time to play with it!

I reduced the size - don't know if this is better, worse or the same...let me know. I readily admit I have no idea what I'm doing with putting an image into the header; so if people want me to remove it, I will gladly do so :)

Now on my computer it seems a little too short. On the right side. Tweak it just a little more and I think you'll have it.

hmm
it's fine for me NOW but you have already adjusted. I read a lot form google reader and only click in to comment--so it's not something I have noticed being a problem--but that doesn't mean it wasn't

How's that? I lengthened it by a smidge.

Hmmmm... for some reason it is still huge on my computer. I too am mystified by putting pictures in headers so I am afraid I can't offer a more substantial comment than that.

Thank you so much for grappling with this problem, Wendy!

What browser are you using, Ariel? I use Firefox/Mozilla and it looks fine on my screen.

pour of tor - I have the same problem as you and I also use Firefox on a Mac. It's a little better (thanks Wendy), but it still seems really big.

In the past, I thought the page was taking a long time to load, then I realized I was sitting staring at the header, when all I had to do was scroll down to see the rest of the page!

I use Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.4 . I wonder if it is the version of Firefox that makes the difference?

Okay - I'm not giving up yet :) Sounded like it was too "tall" an image, so I shortened it up. How is it for you now?

Looks much better for me, Wendy.

looks better for me too, wendy. btw, how do you add an image to a header? I've been wondering how to do that.

On blogger - go to layout and click on edit for the header. You'll see a place where you can browse for files. I just uploaded a photo I'd taken of Mt. Lassen. As you can see, however, I had to edit the photo multiple times. It doesn't automatically adjust to the frame.

If everyone thinks the image is okay, I'll leave it alone now. If you want me to further tweak it, let me know. Apparently the browser people are using effect how it actually looks - so it makes it difficult to get it to look right.

Well, I checked it in three different browsers (Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer) on my computer, and they all had the same loading speed and size problems, so I asked my boyfriend (a former graphic designer) what he thought the problem was and the next thing I knew he was madly working away at our template code, muttering things about pixels and shushing me whenever I tried to interject. The upshot is - he has now fixed my problems, in all three browsers. But the question is - does anyone else now see a misbehaving (too small, too large, too slow-to-load) image among those who either did or did not have a problem before. I hope this was a universal fix, but let me know if there are further problems.

Thank goodness for amazing techie boyfriends!

Oh my goodness - it's PERFECT! Please thank your boyfriend (*big hugs* from me!!). Now, I need him to go over to my Novel Challenges blog and fix that one! *laughs*

Wow, Ariel, your boyfriend rocks! The picture is perfect. Don't touch a thing!
