Progress Report--Kookiejar
Wish me luck. I'm taking up the challenge. I'm going to attempt 'Against the Day'. As some of you will recall, only one reviewer for the Tournament of Books could even be bothered to finish the dang thing and even he didn't finish it until after he'd registered an opinion.
I know it is over 1,200 pages and apparently the story is very complicated, but I feel someone should give it a fair shake. I can't promise I'll finish it, but I currently have a copy of it in my hot little hands, so who knows? I'll probably give brief updates along the way, to let you know I'm still alive. I also have 4 other NYT books that I'm going to try to read at the same time, so you'll be hearing from me. I swear.
In the meantime, I'll post my review of 'Old Filth' tomorrow (just polishing it up right now). That is all.

Oh man, I'll be rooting for you to finish this! Definitely keep us up to date as to how far along you are and how you are feeling about this gigundo (I know that's not a real word, but it seems to describe how I picture this book) book!
I think 'gigundo' is appropriate. It is so big, I will only be able to read it while sitting on my sofa for fear of getting a hernia!
Good luck! I got Lisey's Story recently. I thought that one was big...LOL.
Hey Kookie...my husband is reading that, but he puts it down and reads other things. For example: I made (yes, made) him read THE ROAD before I had to take it back to the library. (AND just for the record, he didn't like it. He rated it a 2.5/5.) He also is reading another book alongside it. Books that big are very intimidating. They scare me away! I hope you enjoy it and it's well worth your time. :) Happy Reading!
I was hoping someone would read this!
Joy, I made my husband read The Road, too! He really liked it.
Amy, I have the feeling that Lisey's Story is easier reading. I loved it, and I hope you do to.
Joy, it seems like 'The Road' is a love it or leave it type of book. Let me know what your hubby thinks of "Against the Day". I think it has to be read in small bites.
3m, like I said, I'll keep you all updated. It's daunting to say the least.
